DIY – Transitioning From Heating Your Home To Cooling It

Here is a helpful checklist to assist you in preparing your home and/or cottage for summer weather.

  1. Check filter and change when required. (cost of filter not included)
  2. Check furnace fan motor and blower assembly
  3. Check cooling suction and cooling discharge pressure
  4. Check all safety controls
  5. Check amperage draw of compressor
  6. Clean debris from outdoor unit
  7. Clean and hose out condenser coil
  8. Comb bent fins on the condenser
  9. Install gauges and check operating pressures.
  10. Check voltage and amperage to all motors with meter.
  11. Check air temperature drop across evaporator.
  12. Check for adequate refrigerant charge and possible leaks.
  13. Lubricate all moving parts.
  14. Check belt and adjust tension.
  15. Shut down humidifier and close by-pass damper.
  16. Clear condensate drain.
  17. Check pressure switch cut-out settings.
  18. Check electrical lock out circuits.
  19. Check compressor contacts.
  20. Check wiring and connections.
  21. Inspect thermostat for proper operation.
  22. Check total performance and operating efficiency of air-conditioning system.
